Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on global education. Students were unable to attend school because of social distancing measures implemented by governments to prevent the spread of the pandemic. Consequently, online learning has emerged as the primary solution for ensuring students' learning processes are maintained. As a result, students' periodic testing has been transformed into remote online exams (ROEs). While the advantages of ROEs are widely acknowledged, the urgent use of this test poses problems and challenges for students and teachers. The purpose of this study was to investigate factors that may affect the results of online remote exams administered to high school students in Vietnam and to examine how these factors affect their test results when compared to the traditional testing method. The research used exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to identify five potential factors influencing the online remote exam results of Vietnamese high school students, with 17 items meeting statistical standards: attitude toward ROEs, preparedness, anxiety, technical problems, and perceived ROE software. According to one-way ANOVA, the male student group had higher perceived ROE software than the female student group; however, there was no difference between the remaining groups. This study provides a foundation for online education and online examination research communities and recommendations for educational practitioners, school administrators, and technical service providers on effectively supporting remote online examinations of Vietnamese high school students.
